In terms of the NBR there are many and varied opportunities for solid long-term profitable investments in Romania, Central Bank governor Mugur Isărescu said on Wednesday, after attending a forum of cooperation between the Gulf states and our country.
The National Bank's role is to assure investors that they will evolve into a stable and predictable economic environment, Mugur Isărescu said, adding that the Romanian economy is stabilized and ready for a new cycle of sustainable growth.
The NBR governor said that economic imbalances are unlikely to return, provided that the policies are correct.
‘I think we, Romanians, should learn something from this longer recession. We, indeed, have the excuse that the first cycle is completed, let's say, in a capitalist way, that was experienced by the Romanian economy after 50 years of communism.
‘From now let's hurry slowly. We know that we have to catch up, but many times, if we press the accelerator too hard and look only at the speed of economic growth, we may easily get the same traumatic experience’, the NBR governor said.
The central bank predicts a 1.5 percent growth this year and 4-5 percent in 2012.
Business environment, ‘far from being hostile’
Romanian President Traian Băsescu said on Tuesday at the opening of the works on forum of ‘the Gulf Cooperation Council Bucharest-Romania: Business Opportunities in Central and South-Eastern Europe’, that the Romanians have learned that an economic growth based on consumption is not healthy.
‘In Romania there are tremendous opportunities for investment, ‘said President Traian Băsescu, adding that business is far from being hostile, as it is a competitive one, which only needs to be adjusted in the bureaucracy sector.
Traian Băsescu stated that the warnings on the food crisis should not be neglected, but that Romania can be a regional engine of reducing the effects of a such presumed future crisis, if the agricultural potential is exploited.
The president pointed ou that Romania was ranked second in the EU, after France, in the number of green hectares.
Traian Băsescu said that Romania is a country with great potential in tourism but that it has an outdated infrastructure which has to be upgraded.
