The budget situation is the subject of discussions on Tuesday during "Government Hour", in the Chamber of Deputies.
USR representatives ask the Minister of Finance for explanations regarding the data recently presented by Adrian Caciu according to which the budget receipts in the first quarter of this year were more than four billion lei below the assumed ones.
Under these conditions, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca asked all ministers to present measures to reduce expenses by Wednesday.
However, the head of the government gave assurances that there is no question of resorting to layoffs, salary reductions or investments.
The acting president of the Senate, the liberal Alina Gorghiu, also rejected the idea of austerity measures and emphasized that it is only a budget adjustment.
Alina Gorghiu: It seems absolutely natural to me that when any family in Romania makes its budget and adjusts its expenses to the budget it has, the ministries in Romania to make this adjustment as well. What seems essential to me is that it is not done by cutting salaries, nor by reducing investments. But still, there is little time until the ministries will come up with the measures that the prime minister requested.
