Producer: Catalin Gombos - President Klaus Iohannis began his visit to Japan with meetings with the presidents of the two chambers of the Japanese parliament. Japanese officials appreciated Romania's involvement in supporting Ukraine and the support given to refugees. At the same time, the desire to improve collaboration in the military field was expressed, given the existing tensions in the East Asian region. The main objective and event of this visit is, however, to raise the bilateral relationship to the level of strategic partnership. Oana Bala reports:

Reporter: President Klaus Iohannis started his visit to Japan with a meeting with the president of the upper house of the parliament, Hidehisa Otsuji. The head of state mentioned, at the beginning of the meeting, that tomorrow he will be received by the Emperor of Japan, Naruhito, after which he will go to the government, where several important documents will be signed, among which is the Joint Declaration establishing the Strategic Partnership between Romania and Japan.

For his part, the president of the Upper House of the parliament in Tokyo emphasized the importance of deepening bilateral relations. On the other hand, the Japanese official appreciated Romania's involvement in supporting Ukraine and mentioned the Ukrainian refugees who were received in Romania.

He also said that the Japanese side wants to improve cooperation in the military field, while pointing out that there are military tensions in the East Asian region, but also the risk of using nuclear weapons. Today, the President of Romania also had a meeting with the President of the Lower Chamber of the Parliament, Hiroiuki Hosoda.
