President Klaus Iohannis has sent back to Parliament for re-examination the law that would have obliged prosumers to install storage capacity for the electricity they produce.
The President believes that it is not right that the entire financial burden should be transferred to those who have installed photovoltaic panels just to save on their bills.
In a press statement posted on the website of the Presidential Administration, the Head of State, Klaus Iohannis, points out that the new provisions of the law, although necessary, are inappropriate and inapplicable in the form in which they are regulated.
Klaus Iohannis points out that the use of storage facilities by prosumers, at the very place where surplus energy is produced, is beneficial, even leading to lower energy prices.
However, the Head of State points out that transferring the entire financial burden solely to the prosumer, by obliging him to invest in additional storage capacity, will have the adverse effect of discouraging citizens from installing photovoltaic panels.
With an amendment that obliges prosumers to ensure both energy production and storage, Romania's goal of becoming a carbon-neutral country, including through the use of renewable energy sources, risks not becoming a reality, President Klaus Iohannis says in the statement.
"I encourage the Parliament to identify those legislative solutions that will reduce the burden of too high additional costs for prosumers in relation to the purchase of electricity storage capacity", Klaus Iohannis adds in his message.
