President Klaus Iohannis's visit to Japan
Strategic Partnership between Romania and Japan is to be launched in 2021.

President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis is on official visit in Japan, where he and his wife, Carmen Iohannis, attended on Tuesday morning, the enthronement ceremony of Japanese Emperor Naruhito. This morning, Iohannis has met Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, which whom he discussed the Strategic Partnership between Romania and Japan, to be launched in 2021.
RRA Correspondent to Tokyo, Oana Bâlă: The two high dignitaries want the launch of the Strategic Partnership to take place in the context of the anniversary, in the year 2021, of 100 years after the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two states. Japanese Prime Minister has shown that the future Partnership will lead to a substantial relationship between the two countries, and Romanian Head of State stressed that lifting the relationship at the level of Strategic Partnership comes at the right time and will produce beneficial effects not only on political level, but also on the economic one. There were also discussions on cooperation in the field of security and defense, including defense against ballistic missiles, based on Romania's experience in hosting the missile facility in Deveselu. Regarding the economic dimension of the bilateral relationship, the two senior officials expressed hope that the Japanese investments in Romania will be stimulated. The desire of the two countries to step up cooperation in the cultural field was also mentioned.
President Klaus Iohannis has also had a meeting with his Finnish counterpart, Sauli Niinisto, who invited Iohannis to Finland, for the next year celebration of the centenary of bilateral diplomatic relations.
