Ensuring the EU's energy security is of growing strategic importance in the current context of the war in Ukraine, according to President Klaus Iohannis.
He discussed the issue with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who visited Bucharest today.
According to the head of state, the goal of ensuring energy security at EU level comes to be of increased strategic importance, and European countries tend to eliminate energy dependence on the Russian Federation.
Klaus Iohannis: Romania is willing to provide its own energy infrastructure to diversify its supply of natural gas from multiple sources.
For his part, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez spoke of the need for an EU-wide decision on the evolution of electricity and gas prices.
Pedro Sanchez: I think it is very important for the EU to act quickly, not to postpone decisions, because this affects SMEs, it affects the industry at EU level, but it also directly affects the citizens of our countries, because they bear the consequences of a new crisis. We have not even recovered well from the crisis caused by the 2019 COVID pandemic and we have entered a new one.
