President Klaus Iohannis met in Jerusalem on Tuesday with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin. Head of Romanian State assured his Israeli counterpart of Romania's sustained and constant efforts to combat anti-Semitism, xenophobia and intolerance.

Iohannis is in Israel for the World Holocaust Remembrance Forum, which marks 75 years since liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

Israeli Head of State appreciated Romania's participation in the Holocaust condemnation and stressed the importance of the common fight against racism.

Romanian and Israeli Presidents also spoke about the strategic relationship between their countries, with the development of the economic component, as Radio Romania Special Envoy to Jerusalem, Oana Bâlă, says.

Oana Bâlă: "President Klaus Iohannis said that he will continue to pay special attention to the partnership between Romania and the State of Israel and, in this context, he addressed the invitation for the Israeli President to pay a visit to Romania this year. Invitation was accepted by President Reuven Rivlin.

On the other hand, Iohannis mentioned the importance of organizing the third Romania - Israel joint governmental meeting, which, in his opinion, can contribute to the development of economic cooperation between the two countries.

Israeli President appreciated, in turn, Romania's participation in the Holocaust condemnation and said that the two countries are not only historically close, but the nature of their people is similar.

President Reuven Rivlin: "I know your concerns about values, and the fact that we share the same values and fight the same battles leads us to the idea that together we can educate people, we can teach them that condemning the Holocaust is necessary. I believe we cannot fight racism and hatred without cooperation. Cooperation is very, very important".

President Klaus Iohannis wrote in the Honorary Book of the Israeli Presidency, stressing that Romania remains committed to supporting preservation of the Holocaust memory, combating anti-Semitism, preventing discrimination and any other forms of violence".
