President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, is in London to attend meeting of Heads of State and Government from NATO Member States and invitee North Macedonia (3-4 December). Leaders mark the 70th anniversary of the Alliance, and are expected to take a range of decisions to adapt NATO for the future.
RRA Special Envoy to NATO meeting in London, Alina Stănuță: President Klaus Iohannis believes a process of reflection on NATO's future is a good thing, provided it takes place under the leadership of Alliance's Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg. Romania is determined to get involved in this discussion.
Two important topics are on Agenda. First is the so-called burden sharing - contribution of each Member State to the Defense, given that only nine countries out of 29 allocate 2% of their GDP for Defense. President Iohannis says Romania is doing very well in this regard.
Second is related to the future of NATO, which aims at a medium or long term strategy.
Romanian delegation at NATO meeting in London also includes, among others, Defense Minister Nicolae Ciucă, and Chief of Defense, Lieutenant General Daniel Petrescu.
