President Klaus Iohannis has asked Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă to resign, on Friday, and has mentioned he withdraws his confidence, because she is not fit for the position of Head of Government, according to a press statement released today by the Cotroceni Palace.

President has invoked the dispute between the Government and the National Bank, Mrs. Dăncilă's visit to Israel and her refusal to consult with the Head of State on key foreign-policy issues.

Iohannis had summoned Dăncilă to come to Cotroceni this Friday for a meeting, after she returned to Bucharest from her visit to Israel, to discuss important issues, such as harmonization of the National Bank's policies with the government's fiscal policies. Prime Minister, though, announced she wouldn’t come.

RRA Reporter Carmen Gavrilă coming up with updates: „President Klaus Iohannis was extremely dissatisfied that Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă went to Israel without a mandate, without consulting the Presidency. Head of State explained that, according to the Constitution, consultation was compulsory, in the interests of the Romanians”.

President Klaus Iohannis: „Mrs.Dăncilă cannot cope with the position of Prime Minister of Romania and thus she turns the Government into a vulnerability for Romania. Therefore, I publicly call the resignation of Mrs. Dăncilă from the office of Head of Government”.

Head of State also said that Viorica Dăncilă did not understand the obligations she has as a Prime Minister and preferred to listen to orders coming from PSD.
