Aside of nationwide celebration of Romania’s Centenary of its Great Union, this event will also be marked in the only Ice Hotel in Romania that is built every winter at Bâlea Lake at over 2000 meters altitude in the Făgăraș Mountains.
Construction of the Ice Hotel will start on December 1, with a special event dedicated to Romania’s National Day, marking 100 years of modern Romania.
Administrators hope that by then there will be enough snow on the peaks of the Făgăraș Mountains, and also that the weather will be cold enough so that Bâlea Lake will be covered with a thick layer of ice, because it is from here where huge blocks of ice of over 70 kg will be cut and used for Ice Hotel’s walls. There will also be three Igloos and an Ice Church - a huge point of attraction for thousands of tourists every winter.
Ice Hotel will look the same as in the past: 16 rooms, a Restaurant and an Ice Bar. But the interior design and decoration will be different, and one of themes will be the Centenary of the Great Union. Great Hall in the middle of the building, hosting the Restaurant and Ice Bar, will bear the name of King Ferdinand I of Romania, Great Union monarch, who will have an ice sculpture in size. Rooms will be decorated with photos from the Făgăraș Mountains, the highest in Romania, famous for their beautiful landscapes.
Construction will have to go fast. Regardless of the weather, on blizzard or frost, workers will have to finish the Ice Hotel in just three weeks, so that it can already host tourists starting from December 22nd. There are already many reservations made especially from abroad. For Christmas, there are still rooms available, but for New Year's Eve, Ice Hotel in Bâlea Lake is fully booked.
Premiere at the Ice Hotel in Bâlea Lake is the launch of an exclusive fragrance, specially created for this special season - called "Frozen Love", produced in Germany by a small firm of Ms. Astrid Friedrich, born in the Romanian city of Mediaș, who left Romania 35 years ago. So this winter, tourists will also have a perfumed souvenir from the Ice Hotel in Bâlea Lake, a unique touristic attraction in this part of Europe.
