Men’s Handball Team AHC Potaissa Turda qualified, on Sunday, in the final of the EHF Challenge Cup, an official European Handball Federation competition for men’s clubs of Europe, after defeating the Icelandic team IBV Vestmannaeyjar with the score of 28-24 in the semi-finals.
In a hot atmosphere created by the Transylvanians in the "Gheorghe Bariţiu" sports-hall in Turda, Potaissa managed to finish the match with an advantage of four-goals, the minimum necessary to lead as a whole. Romanian top scorer was Cristian Ghiță (six goals). In the first match, the Icelanders won at a three-goal difference, with a score of 31 to 28.
Potaissa Turda, a club founded in 2000, will play in the Challenge Cup final for the second time in a row. In 2017, Sporting Lisbon conquered the trophy after winning both games in the final of the competition, played against Potaissa, with scores of 37 to 28 and 30 to 24.
In the final, Romanians will play against AEK Athens. The first match is scheduled at Turda on May 12 or 13, while the re-match will be away on May 19 or 20.
In the semifinals, the Greeks defeated the Portuguese from Madeira Andebol SAD, with a score of 29 to 21 away and 23-23 in Athens.
