The National Liberal Party (PNL) completed its leadership team at a National Council organized in Poiana Brasov almost two months after the extraordinary congress that brought Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca to the position of President of the Liberals.
MEP Dan Motreanu was elected as first vice-president, the interior minister Lucian Bode as general secretary of the party, and senator Virgil Guran as vice-president.
With the new team, the party leader, Nicolae Ciuca, gave assurances that PNL guarantees the stability of the coalition without giving up the liberal principles.
MEP Dan Motreanu had remained the only candidate for the post of first vice-president, after the Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, withdrew from the race as a sign of the party's unity, he said.
"I think this gesture by Virgil Popescu shows both our maturity and the beginning of a unity that will bring the National Liberal Party back to a score that will allow us to win the elections. The big problem of our times is that politicians no longer want to become useful, but only important", said Dan Motreanu.
Secretary General Lucian Bode, who had been nominated for the number two position in PNL by Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, also spoke about the internal calming of the party.
