PNL and PSD agreed that the future government should be led in rotation by a liberal and a social democrat; the problem is which of the two parties will have the first prime minister. Both parties claim this right. The Social Democrats claim that they are justified, because they won the most parliamentary seats in the elections, said the president of PSD, Marcel Ciolacu.
Marcel Ciolacu: My colleagues voted for me to be appointed prime minister by PSD. Following the negotiations, we will see what happens. Next week, Romania will have a government.
At PNL, the president of the party is also the proposal for prime minister, and Florin Citu said he was convinced that a solution would be found to unblock the negotiations.
Florin Citu: I agree with a government in the next three years with a rotating system, with a prime minister half the time being from PNL and half from PSD, and we, PNL, decided that the first prime minister should be from our party.
Florin Citu also stated that in the discussions with the PSD and UDMR leaders he proposed to Marcel Ciolacu the deputy Alexandru Rafila for the position of prime minister, but he did not agree.
UDMR states that it is not involved in this rotation because it does not want to be part of the problem, but part of the solution that will lead to the establishment of a governmental coalition.
