The US State Department has approved a possible sale of Patriot missile defense systems to Romania worth $ 3.9 billion, a Pentagon Agency announced yesterday, according to Reuters.
France Presse writes that the Washington Defense Department has informed the Congress about this, but the Congress may theoretically oppose the deal within 30 days.
The Pentagon and the US State Department mention in a press release that this Patriot missile sale proposal will contribute to Romania's needs in terms of self-defense and will respond to NATO's defense objectives. The document also shows that this will allow the Romanian armed forces to increase their defensive capabilities in front of an aggression and to protect NATO allies who are regularly training in Romania.
