At the Chamber of Deputies, the debates continue in the specialized committee on the new education laws, developed by the government. There are over a thousand amendments submitted mainly by PSD and USR.
Today, among others, the proposals of the Minister of Education Ligia Deca were approved, which ensures access to courses and the teaching system for minor mothers and for students who become parents.
The amendments provide for the participation of these students in courses, including in the online system. Responsible authorities will be required to promote unwanted pregnancy prevention programs in schools.
Also, minor students who become parents will have the right to postpone the exams if they coincide with the period of childbirth or child care.
Minister Ligia Deca: During the entire period of schooling of pregnant students or parent students, a teacher is appointed who has the obligation to supervise their educational course. Pregnant students have the right to return to the educational unit at any time during the school year.
The education commission also adopted the amendments of the deputies from the governing coalition, which propose that for students who study in a locality other than their home, the transport expenses should be provided from the state budget, through the county education departments, based on a government decision. USR opposed these amendments.
Deputy Filip Havareanu: The fact that we are now trying to put in place a solution that actually does not solve anything is a very sad thing, because student transport is one of the most important claims they have, and rights, first of all; it should be free, no more hassle with flat rate statements and stuff.
So far, the deputies in the committee have gone through half of the draft law for pre-university education proposed by Minister Ligia Deca.
This week the project on higher education will also be debated. The deadline for a report expires on Thursday.
