The Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is meeting in Bucharest. The main topic of discussion is "Parliamentary perspective on the role of OSCE in the current security architecture".
The 31st Parliamentary Session of the OSCE, currently being held in Bucharest, is an event of major geopolitical importance, according to Dan Barna, the chairman of the Romanian Parliament's delegation to the international organization.
The event recognizes Romania's role in the current regional context of the war in Ukraine and European security developments in the OSCE countries as a whole.
The war waged by Russia against Ukraine is one of the main topics on the meeting's agenda, according to Dan Barna.
"We have seen many messages very much aligned on the need to continue a solidarity response towards Ukraine and towards this country's struggle to defend European democracy, because Ukrainian citizens are not only fighting for the independence of their country, they are fighting to defend a way of life and European values, freedom, democracy, the rule of law, elements that Russia has given up in this period. A resolution was also adopted on the Republic of Moldova, the situation in Transnistria and the need to support Moldova's European direction, because Moldova needs international support more than ever", explained Dan Barna, Chairman of the Romanian Parliament's delegation to the OSCE.
The more than 250 parliamentarians who have come to Bucharest are also discussing economic development, the equal involvement of women and men in political life and the involvement of young people in decision-making.
