"Only 6% of the Romanian population do sports"

Only 6% of Romania's population does sports, in contrast to the European average of 44%, according to the latest official data - a worrying statistic with major effects on our health.

In this context, the Ministry of Sports and the Youth Committee of the Chamber of Deputies announce a project of the European Commission which will be held for the first time for Romania at institutional level, "European Week of Sports".

This national campaign will take place in the last week of September, stated the President of the Committee for Youth and Sports in the Chamber of Deputies, Oana Toiu:

Oana Toiu: It is a European project that runs in parallel in several member countries. In previous editions, it gathered more than 12 million participants, in more than 48.000 events. We want to give this signal, with the "European Week of Sports", that it is necessary, both for Romanians and for children, to establish a cross-party support framework for access to sports activities. At this moment, in families in Romania, statistics say that there are the highest chances of having at least one member in the family who is obese.
