European Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources, Gunther H. Oettinger, said on Tuesday in Bucharest that he wants to contribute to promoting Romania's entry into Schengen and stressed that free movement is one of the European values.
"We should always have in mind the free movement. Europe's greatest progress is cross-border movement, which is why, after being here, I want to contribute in Brussels in promoting Romania's entry into Schengen, for Romania to reach the level required to join Schengen, so that either at the airport or on the roads there will no longer be different control procedures", the official said, according to official translations.
EU Commissioner spoke about European Union's efforts for economic development.
'Infrastructure needs to be further optimized across borders, to have an adequate internal EU market with a free movement of goods and people (...) this is why we need good roads, highways, railways; there is a need for infrastructure, as well as for high-performance fiber-optic and 5G", he added.
Oettinger attended the conference titled "European Elections and Brexit 2019: Consequences for the EU and the EU Budget", organized by the Representation of Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Romania.
