More than half of European citizens consider themselves targeted by digital threats, and the vast majority of European companies have faced at least one cyber security incident in 2018, according to data presented on Monday at a conference in Bucharest on global challenges in this area.
Specialists gathered at the event organized by Romanian National Computer Security Incident Response Team (CERT-RO) - consider that a better education in this regard, both among public and companies, is necessary, given that almost three quarters of companies have minimal knowledge about these risks.
During talks, Romanian Minister of Communications, Alexandru Petrescu, stressed the importance of a coherent and firm response to digital threats.
Minister Alexandru Petrescu: With losses of 400 billion euros in the global economy, caused by cyber attacks in all industrial sectors, with a perspective of the global cyber security market to exceed 250 billion dollars in 2023, with two thirds of the companies at global level identifying a shortage of expertise in cyber security and with about three million vacancies still in the field, globally, at present there is a need for cooperation between the public and private sectors, in order to encourage the increase of expertise in this field and to ensure personal security, security of the business environment, and national security.
RRA Producer: The number of cyber incidents reported in Romania has doubled this year compared to 2018, and Romanian Minister of Communications announces this evolution based on the early signals that the institutions and organizations have managed to receive and were able to signal such situations.
RRA Reporter Cătălin Radu reminds that as of this year's spring there is a unique number - 1911 to which these cyber incidents can be reported.
