Number of cases of corruption in MIA ‘tripled’
The number of interior ministry employees accused of corruption has increased by 81 percent in the first semester of year compared with the same period of 2010 according to a report of the Anti-Corruption General Directorate (AGD).

The number of employees accused for offenses for the the AGD has tripled during the first semester of 2011 compared to the same period in 2010, according to a report by the General Anticorruption Directorate.
According to the release in 2011 about two thousand criminal cases were submitted to the Prosecutor's Office, 27 percent more than last year.
Moreover, the prosecution was initiated in 230 penal cases, including 46 at the National Anti-Corruption Directorate.
Also over 2 700 people were investigated.
Among them 1 200 were employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
Compared to the same period of 2001, the document prepared by the AGD emphasizes an increase of 50 percent in the number of prosecuted persons and 81 percent in the number of prosecuted MIA personnel.
The total number of prosecuted persons increased by 200 percent which means that the number of MIA employees committing offenses in the area of jurisdiction of the AGD increased three times.
Moreover, a 226 percent increase in the number of people in custody was reported.
