Nuclearelectrica: Romania's objective is to increase nuclear energy production

Natural gas and nuclear energy will be the energy resources with the highest share after 2030, experts estimate, and Romania's goal is to increase nuclear energy production in the coming years by upgrading reactors 1 and 2 at Cernavoda and building two more large-capacity reactors, the general director of Nuclearelectrica explained today on Radio Romania News.
Cosmin Ghita also said that coal-fired power plants in Europe will be replaced by mini-reactors in the coming years and gave the example of Romania, which has moved to the next stage of implementation of the Doicesti project, while also presenting its advantages.
Cosmin Ghita: We see this project as an opportunity for multiplication, because in the next 20 years in Central and Eastern Europe there will probably be 130 coal-fired power plants that will reach maturity at the end of their life and will have to be replaced. Of course, each country makes its energy mix as it sees fit, but the solution of replacing coal-fired power plants with small nuclear power plants can have advantages, going back to the logic of the CETs of old, which both supported communities with steam, which nuclear power plants do, and have cheap energy available 24/7, which can also support the relocation of industrial chains.
