The number of non-emergency calls to 112 fell in 2024 by almost 1 million compared with previous years, the Special Telecommunications Service reports. Thus, STS operators handled more than 9.7 million calls, 60% of which were emergencies, the rest of which did not require the intervention of authorities.
According to the STS, this result is due to the adoption of measures to improve the service, the drastic penalization of those who misused the single emergency number and the launch of campaigns to raise awareness among citizens about the use of this essential service.
The most responsible citizens are, in order, in the counties of Cluj, Bucharest, Ilfov, Bihor, Timis and Iasi. The counties with the most non-emergency calls are Gorj, Covasna and Mures. The most abusive calls were recorded in Mehedinti, says the Special Telecommunications Service.
