Nicusor Dan: It will not be a contest of who shouts louder that Romania is corrupt

The mayor of the capital, Nicusor Dan, announced on Monday evening that he will run for president as an independent.
He said that he has communicated his intention to the leaders of the parties that will form the majority coalition in the next parliament and is awaiting discussions on his support in the presidential race.
Nicusor Dan says Romania needs a fundamental change in the way the state responds to citizens' expectations.
Nicusor Dan: It will be a tough battle between those who defend the public interest and those who defend the interest of the gang. It won't be what some are proposing - a contest of who shouts louder that Romania is corrupt. We all know there is corruption in Romania. It will be a battle that will involve administrative mechanisms, the need for political coagulation and justice, and these are the essential attributes that the President of Romania must have today. It is the President's role to enunciate those values that unite us. It is his role to enunciate those values which make a difference and to point out those exaggerations which prevent dialogue and understanding in our society.
We recall that Nicusor Dan is the founder of USR, from which he resigned in 2017 because he did not want to position the party against the family referendum.
