New car registrations, "increasing in Romania"

If in Europe in the first two months of 2012 , there was a decline in new car registrations, in Romania the registrations were up 54 percent , according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.

New passenger car registrations in Romania rose 54% in first two months of the year over the same period in 2011, over 9,000 units, the most significant growth in the EU as a percentage, it is said in a release on Thursday by European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), which takes the data Directorate for Driving and Vehicle Registration (DRPCIV).

New car registrations in Romania reached in the first two months of the 2012 to 9,063 units, while in the same period in 2011 there were only 5,886 units.

Car market as a whole, including two wheelers, buses and minibuses and vehicles for transporting goods has increased by 20.94 percent of new car registrations in February compared to same period last year, to 5,713 units according to Directorate or Driving and Vehicle Registration(DPRCIV).

In the top brands, new passenger car registrations in Romania Dacia rose in February to 9.81 percent , to 996 units, while Skoda has made an advance of 23.04 percent, to 470 cars.

Volkswagen has shown an advance of 36.25 percent to 436 units, Ford has managed an increase of 50.22%, to 347 cars and Renault advanced 24.38 percent to 250 registrations, says the institution.

Romania recorded in the first two months of 2012 the strongest growth as a percentage, while Poland had the best development in volume, gaining over 6,000 new passenger car registrations (plus 15.2 percent ) from 41,800 to 48,169 units.

European market, down

But the EU new car registrations fell by 8.3% in first two months of 2012 over the same period in 2011, from 2,027 millions to 1,858 millions , says European Automobile Manufacturers Association( ACEA) release.

In February, the EU car market shrank by 9.7%, from 984,010 to 888, 878 registrations.

Germany, the largest European market, recorded in January- February a slightly negative development, minus 0.2%, from about 435,500 to 434,500 units, while France, the second EU economy has shown decreases over 20% both in the first two months - to 310,056 units and in February – to 163,010 registrations, marking the strongest decreases in volume.

Dacia registered a decrease of 6% ​​of new car registrations in the EU in the first two months of the year, from 38,169 to 35,878 units.

Renault, the third largest European manufacturer and Dacia owner , recorded a decline of about 24% both in the first two months, and in February, too.

Thus, new passenger car registrations Renault and Dacia in January- February dropped by 24.6 percent to 165,333 units.

Volkswagen, Europe's largest car manufacturer , saw the beginning of a decrease of 0.9% in the number of registrations in the EU, from about 446,000 units to 442,000 units.

Peugeot, the second car manufacturer on the continent, recorded a decline of 15.8%, from 281,800 to 237,175 units.
