18 million Romanians are expected to vote today in the European parliamentary and local elections. Nationwide, polling stations have already opened and will close at 22:00 and only in exceptional cases, when there are a lot of people queuing to vote, can this timetable be extended by another two hours, i.e. until 23:59.
While for the European parliamentary elections we can vote at any polling station in the country, for local elections we can only vote within the country and only in our place of residence. If you don't know where you can vote, it's easy to go to the website registerlelectoral.ro and enter your personal number and your surname, tick the CAPTCHA code and in a few seconds you will have all the information you need, including the address and map of the precinct where you are registered.
To vote you must have a valid ID, i.e. one of the following: ID card, diplomatic passport, service passport or military service card in the case of students in military schools. You must be 18 years of age or over, and you must not be prohibited from voting. You will be given five ballot papers at the polling station: one ballot paper showing the candidates for the European Parliament and the remaining four for the mayor, the local council list, the county council president and the county council list or, as the case may be, for the sector mayor, the local council of the sector, the mayor general of the capital and for the General Council of Bucharest.
