The NATO Battle Group in Cincu will be upgraded to brigade level in 2025, increasing the number of allied troops to 4.000, French General Loic Girard, Senior National Representative in Romania, told Romanian journalists on Thursday.
The estimated period is May, when the multinational Dacian Spring exercise will take place.
With the increase in the number of soldiers, Loic Girard explained, the military equipment will also increase - if there are currently 13 Leclerc tanks in Cincu, by 2025, the number could rise to 50. Caesar howitzers will also be added.
NATO Battle Group Cincu, which has France as its framework nation, was set up in May 2022, shortly after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Senior officials have repeatedly stressed their readiness for the Battle Group to become a brigade if necessary, reports Agerpres.
