Romanians elected their mayors, county council presidents, local and county councillors yesterday. The national turnout for the local elections was just over 50%.
Pending the official results from the Central Electoral Office, political parties did their own parallel counts. According to these, PSD would have won 24 county councils, PNL - 12, and UDMR - 4.
In Neamt, PSD president Daniel Harpa won the county council chairmanship after defeating his PNL opponent George Lazar. A similar situation occurred in Hunedoara, where the Social Democrats won against the Liberals.
In Sibiu, on the other hand, there is continuity in both the presidency of the County Council and the City Hall, where Daniela Cimpean - PNL and Astrid Fodor - German Democratic Form will keep their mandates for the next 4 years, RRA correspondents transmitted.
