RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - The National Day of Cancer Survivors was marked, yesterday, for the first time in Romania, by events meant to send messages of hope and support for the survivors of this terrible disease.
The organizers also wanted to draw attention to the rights they have acquired through the law.
Such an event took place at the "Alexandru Trestioreanu" Oncological Institute in the Capital, where the "Renasterea" Foundation inaugurated a modern work of art called "The Tree of Light" and which is intended to be a symbol of the fight against cancer.
The director of the Institute, Bogdan Tanase, warned, on this occasion, that many of the oncological cases, whose degree of complexity is constantly increasing, could be avoided through regular medical evaluations.
Bogdan Tanase: “I am the leader of an institution that is visited by over 20.000 patients annually. We are also an institution that is currently running a cervical cancer screening program for Bucharest-Ilfov and will be extended to the entire southeastern area, a program that I believe has been a success, given the conditions, which are influenced, of course, by the two years of pandemic. It is written everywhere that we have results that are not comparable to the European average. The explanation may be in the difficult access to medical services, but part of the explanation is also in the delayed diagnosis, a problem that we can solve through these screening programs."
