N. Ciuca: Brussels officials support Romania's accession to Schengen

All the interlocutors emphasized the support that Romania enjoys in order to complete its accession to the Schengen Area of free movement, said Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, in Brussels, at the end of his two-day working visit, transmitted the RRA envoy, Petruta Obreja.
Reporter: Romania's accession to the Schengen Area, the establishment of the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism, the benchmarks and targets in the NRRP were the main topics discussed both with the presidents of the European Parliament and the European Commission, as well as with the Belgian counterpart, stated Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca.
The aspects related to energy security or Russia's aggression against Ukraine were not forgotten either, and the measures taken by the Bucharest authorities to support Ukrainian civilians were also mentioned.
The situation of the Black Sea region, one of strategic importance for NATO, was discussed by the Prime Minister together with the Secretary General of the Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, who wanted to specify that NATO is not intimidated by Russian threats in the area and will strengthen its defense in Baltic countries.
Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca also said that he met with the Romanian MEPs and had a meeting with the European Commissioner for Transport, Adina Valean, during which the necessary measures for the development of the transport infrastructure and, at the same time, the continuation of the facilitation efforts of grain transit from Ukraine were analyzed.
