The National Museum of Jewish and Holocaust History and the “Prison of Silence” Memorial in Ramnicu Sarat will be funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Program - announced PNL MP Alexandru Muraru, special government representative for promoting memory policies, combating anti-Semitism and xenophobia.
The building, which will house the future museum, will have adequate spaces for cultural, scientific, educational and leisure programs, respectively exhibition halls.
In the Ramnicu Sarat prison, which will be transformed into a memorial, political detainees were imprisoned during the communist period, such as Ion Mihalache, Corneliu Coposu or Ion Diaconescu.
The two objectives will aim to capitalize on Romania's heritage, promote the memory of Holocaust victims, but also raise awareness among the general population about the horrors caused by the communist regime.
