Prime Minister Ludovic Orban has announced that Romania will send to Brussels two proposals for the position of European Commissioner: Adina Vălean and Siegfried Mureşan.
RRA Correspondent in Brussels, Amalia Bojescu: Romania's new candidate for the European Commission is to be heard in the European Parliament’s Transport Committee (TRAN) on November 14. Candidate proposed by Romania must first receive the opinion of the European Parliament’s Legal Commission, which decides on the integrity of the nominated person. There is, though, the problem of the gender balance, one of the priorities of European Commission’s President-elect Ursula von der Leyen. Social Democrats in the European Parliament have warned Ursula von der Leyen not to endanger the gender balance and to force Romania to propose a woman for the position of European Commissioner. "Politico Europe" writes that the European Social Democrats, which have 154 MEPs, could vote against the new European Commission if the gender balance is not respected.
