A hundred Romanian troops participate during 12-18 February in a joint military exercise alongside with 200 soldiers from the United States, Republic of Moldova, Bulgaria and Ukraine, as part of the Platinum Eagle 18.1 module of the Black Sea Rotational Force 18 (BSRF 18) multinational exercise.
Exercises will take place at a military unit in Babadag, Tulcea County.
Romanian Army is represented by Land Force troops of the 'Mărășești' 9th Mechanised Brigade, Romanian Navy troops of the 307th Marine Infantry Battalion and aircrew of the 'Lt. Aviator Gheorghe Mociorniță' 86th Air Force Base", according to a press release of the Romanian Ministry of National Defense (MApN).
Platinum Eagle 18.1 aims to increase the ability of the participating forces to fight together, maintaining deployment and joint training capabilities by exercising joint logistic support, developing a regional environment favorable for multinational military co-operation, and enhancing the combat power of the troops of the participating countries.
Part of the training are tactical drills that include weapons firing, providing first aid in operating areas, exercising sub-unit command and control procedures, MApN states.
Black Sea Rotational Force (BSRF) is an annual exercise, led by the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa, taking place in the Black Sea, the Balkans and the Caucasus region and aims to train troops to participate in peacekeeping missions.
