Gas price for companies will increase by 5 percent next year. The change is brought about by the price increase in imported gas, according to the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE).

Starting from 1 January, the price of natural gas for companies will increase by 5 percent, according to a statement issued by ANRE.
The company says that the change is determined by the price increase in imported gas.
“The Regulatory Committee of ANRE has agreed to keep the regularised final prices for domestic consumers and thermal energy suppliers only on the amount of natural gas used for the thermal energy production in cogeneration plants and thermal power stations, intended for consumption and to increase by 5 percent the final regularised prices for non-household consumers, except for the thermal energy suppliers on the amount of gas they use in order to produce thermal energy in cogeneration plants and thermal power stations intended for consumption starting from January 2012”, they say in the release.
Companies and population pay different prices for natural gas.
The price is determined by a basket consisting of domestically-produced gas, imported gas and gas storage.
“The gas produced in Romania is about two times cheaper in comparison with that imported from Russia”, Mediafax wrote. The basket for companies consists of 67 percent gas produced in Romania and 33 percent imported gas.
The basket for the population has 91.5 percent gas from domestic production, and the rest is imported gas.
This year, the government pledged to the IMF to increase prices for industrial consumers in two stages.
In July, the price rose by almost 10 percent and in October it increased by 8 percent.
