The Ministry of National Defense denies press reports that several soldiers from the Special Operations Forces have participated in private security missions in Africa, under the coordination of Horatiu Potra.
No Romanian servicemen took unpaid leave to take part in such missions, contrary to what PressOne says, Major General Constantin Spinu, the ministry spokesman, said.
Constantin Spinu: As a result of the checks carried out, there has been no case in which active personnel have suspended their service relations with the Ministry of National Defense in order to participate in private activities within the mentioned company. According to the checks conducted at the level of our institution, in the period 2022-2024, only one serviceman from the Special Operations Forces structures was on unpaid leave for an objective reason unrelated to the subject of the article.
According to the online publication PressOne, Horatiu Potra allegedly took around 1.000 Romanians to fight in Congo in 2023, including dozens of soldiers from elite structures, reservists from the special forces, former combatants of the French Legion, secret service personnel and people from special police units.
