Romanian Minister of Justice, Tudorel Toader, said on May 14 that the recommendation by the Council of Europe's Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) cannot be mandatory.
He said that it should not be understood that the law in Romania is written by GRECO. This group only shows the directions regarding legislation evolution.
With regard to GRECO's official press release on the compulsory status of its recommendations, that the media has mentioned, Tudorel Toader reiterated that there is no such document, but there seems to be an e-mail correspondence at secretariat level, as he also wrote on a social network posting.
