Military reservists are unhappy with the decision of the CC magistrates who declared unconstitutional the law that would have updated the rank pay in line with that of active military.
In protest in Mehedinti, dozens of reserve officers and non-commissioned officers inquired at the County Military Center about the procedures for submitting military passbooks.
The CC judges rejected the law on the grounds that it violates a principle of equality.
Mihai Barbulescu, retired military officer: "The Romanian government promised us that it would pass a law updating our rank and function pay with that of active military. They made a law that could easily have been questionable, and with the People's Advocate, who is no longer the People's Advocate, but the system's advocate, they challenged it in the Constitutional Court and so what they promised us they didn't give. In our military law, since Alexandru Ioan Cuza and until today, no political structure has touched the rights of the military.
The loss of reservists would deprive Romania of military personnel able and ready to be mobilized at any time in the event of war.
