Three small drones were spotted near Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base on Monday night. They flew at low altitudes and at low speed.

MApN officials say the situation did not pose an imminent danger to national security, but being a restricted area, jamming countermeasures were taken and the drones were subsequently shot down. An investigation is now underway at the military prosecutor's office.

"An investigation is currently underway. I wouldn't want to speak in advance, but we are definitely talking about commercial drones. This is not unprecedented, similar incidents happen with perhaps almost weekly frequency. This incident has been publicised, but we want drone users to become sufficiently responsible and understand our specific presence and activity in the area. The use of drones has to be done with much more responsibility", says Commander Nicolae Cretu, commander of the 57th Mihail Koglniceanu Air Base.
