Romanian Minister of National Defense, Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă, has had a meeting, on Thursday, with the United States Ambassador to Bucharest, Hans Klemm, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense (MApN). Meeting is the first since taking over the ministerial mandate and has been a good opportunity to discuss issues of common interest regarding cooperation with the US, both from a bilateral perspective and in an allied context.
Minister Ciucă and Ambassador Klemm have discussed dynamics of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States, as well as prospects of intensifying defense cooperation - taking into account the current security context - as essential elements for the security and stability of Romania and its region, says a press release received from the MApN.
Minister Nicolae Ionel Ciucă reiterated Romania's commitment to joint projects between the two armies and to continue allocating 2 percent of GDP for the defense, emphasizing that at government level there is full support for maintaining this percentage.
"Our approach will ensure predictability, consistency and continuity in the development of endowment programs", said Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă.
