Meeting of Romanian Foreign Minister with US Secretary of State

Romanian Foreign Minister, Bogdan Aurescu, has met, on Thursday, in Brussels, US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo on the occasion of NATO meeting of Heads of Diplomacy.

According to a statement of Romanian Diplomacy, Bogdan Aurescu has argued for the need to increase the US military presence in Romania. He has confirmed that allocation of 2% of GDP for the Defense and Romania's participation in foreign military missions will continue and has reaffirmed the need for Romania's access, as a strategic partner and dedicated ally of the United States, in the Visa Waiver program.

In turn, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo acknowledged the role of the Romanian people in toppling a dictatorial communist regime and restoring democracy 30 years ago – according to a press release from the US Department of State.
