Meeting of President Iohannis and US Attorney General at Cotroceni Palace

US Attorney General expressed appreciation and strong support of the US for the firm stance and efforts of President Iohannis in supporting the rule of law.

US Attorney General, William Barr, has been welcomed on Tuesday by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis at the Cotroceni Palace. US Attorney General expressed appreciation and strong support of the United States for the firm stance and efforts of President Iohannis in supporting the rule of law, fighting corruption and strengthening an independent, fair and transparent judicial system for the benefit of citizens - according to a statement from the Romanian Presidential Administration.

Head of State also evoked the recent vote for the European elections and referendum on justice issues, which, as President said, demonstrated that Romanians are deeply attached to democratic values and understand the importance of an independent and efficient justice system without which there can be no functional democracy, press release states.

US Attorney General also had a meeting with Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă, who pointed out that Romanian Executive is committed to finding the best solutions for further judicial and criminal law reform, in line with Romania's international commitments, recommendations of EU Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM), Venice Commission or GRECO, as well as those of the United States – Romanian Government mentioned in a statement.
