President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, welcomed, on Thursday morning, at the Cotroceni Palace, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. On this occasion, President Iohannis reconfirmed Romania's clear commitment to remain a strong and trusted ally of the North Atlantic Alliance.

RRA Reporter Oana Bâlă: Romania is determined to be a valuable security provider in the region, President Klaus Iohannis said and assured NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg that the Romanian EU Presidency will help strengthen the NATO-EU Partnership. Romania will continue to fulfill all its responsibilities towards NATO, of which the most important is allocation of 2% of the Gross Domestic Product for the modernization of the army, Head of State underlined. Defense on the eastern flank and in the Black Sea region remains a priority, said Romanian President and added that NATO-EU relationship requires close cooperation and involvement in projects that complement each other.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reminded of the presence of Romanian troops in Afghanistan, acting for the stability of this country, and welcomed Romania’s significant increase in defense spending and endowment of its army. He noted that these contributions make the Alliance stronger and Romania safer.
