Medical clinic in Bucharest, criminally investigated for organ trafficking

A clinic in Bucharest and its administrator are under criminal investigation for crimes related to the illegal introduction into the country of tissues and organs for transplantation, according to the Prosecutor's Office of the 1st District Court, which is handling the case. Prosecutors have already searched the file that concerns a significant number of corneas brought to Romania between 2019 and 2021, without the authorization of the National Transplant Agency.
The National Transplant Registry records nearly 650 corneal transplant cases. According to the latest official data from DIICOT, in the period 2015-2021, 12 files concerning organ trafficking were completed, most of which were classified.
