Bucharest hosts, on 3-4 October, Media 2020 Conference, this year at its 5th edition, organized by Radio Romania, in partnership with Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU).
40 representatives of the most important public media organizations in Europe and Asia-Pacific discuss their future in the digital age, strategies for copyright protection and combating the fake news phenomenon.
Conference has been opened by dr.Javad Mottaghi, Secretary-General of the Asia-Broadcasting Union, and by Georgică Severin, President - Director General of the Romanian Broadcasting Society (Radio Romania), in the presence of Romanian Minister of Culture, Daniel Breaz.
Event takes place at the Capşa Hotel in Bucharest. Among special guests are dr.Javad Mottaghi - ABU Secretary General, Graham Ellis - BBC Radio Director, Chair of the Radio Commission of the EBU and Chairman of Prix Italia, dr. Yan Bo - Deputy Director of CCTV, China, Claudio Cappon – Secretary General of Co.Pe.AM, Permanent Conference of the Mediterranean Audiovisual, Giacomo Ghisani, Deputy Director of Vatican Radio.
On this occasion, representatives of Radio Romania and BBC Radio have signed an agreement to develop a partnership between the two institutions.
RRA Reporter Alina Stănuţă: Already a tradition in the media dialogue between Europe and the Asia-Pacific area, Media 2020 Conference - organized for the first time in 2015 at the initiative of Radio Romania in partnership with Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union - has been recognized as one of the most open and constructive platforms for dialogue in Europe and Asia, in reference to the media. Purpose of this event is to familiarize public media broadcasters with concrete strategies designed to meet the challenges of the new digital age. The debates this year focus on the future of public media in the digital age, on strategies for protecting copyright and on combating the fake news phenomenon.
Romanian Minister of Culture, Daniel Breaz was present at the official opening ceremony of the event. “It is very important that the information transmitted through the media be correct so that we do not have to deal with fake news, because they have a negative impact”, Minister Breaz said.
“Media can strengthen the dialogue between nations, while the audience needs independent, impartial and reliable news. It is up to us if we tell the truth of the public and if we gain the public's confidence”, said in turn ABU Secretary General, dr.Javad Mottaghi.
