RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - The Chamber of Deputies approved on Wednesday, as a decision-making body, the law by which May 10 is declared Romania's National Independence Day.
The initiators of the document claim that this day has multiple historical meanings: the proclamation of Romania as a kingdom, the taking of the oath by Prince Carol of Hohenzollern, but also the proclamation of Romania's absolute independence from the Ottoman Empire, obtained in 1877.
Andrei Gheorghe, PNL deputy: Thank you to all colleagues in the Romanian Parliament who voted today to restore the historical truth, the truth of a democratic and free Romania, a country which managed to gain its independence and make the Great Union.
The Social Democrats obtained the vote for this document, showing that there are people who are trying to distort the historical truth.
If the head of state promulgates the document adopted by the Chamber of Deputies, May 10 will become a working national holiday, transmitted RRA reporter, Alexandra Cristea.
