Tens of thousands of people, mostly Romanians living abroad, rally in Bucharest’s Victoria Square, demanding government resignation. Protest takes place one year after massive protest against Dăncilă government, which ended with gendarmes’ brutal intervention and a criminal investigation still not concluded.
According to RRA Envoys Cătălin Purcaru and Iulian Olescu, organizers are Civic Action Group "Diaspora for Romania". Protesters carry banners requesting declassification of operational documents of August 10, 2018. They also carry flags of Romania and the European Union. Police forces ensure proper conduct of the protest and prevent unpleasant incidents that may occur.
A year ago, hundreds of thousands of people, Romanians from the country and diaspora, protested in Victoria Square against government policy, and gendarmes used tear gas and water cannons. Hundreds of people needed medical care. Nobody has been found guilty on what happened one year ago.
Other protests were announced in Cluj, Craiova and Iasi, under the title “We know what you did last summer!”
