The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently carrying out several information campaigns for Romanian citizens travelling abroad.
The latest mechanism is an SMS alert for emergency situations, which those going abroad receive on their mobile phone.
Details of the campaign were given to RRA by Bogdan Stanescu, director of the consular department of the MFA.
Bogdan Stanescu: In addition to websites, Facebook and these social media channels, we have an automatic SMS alert system, so that Romanian citizens travelling to certain risk areas that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has identified as areas with a certain risk potential, Romanian citizens or users of phones with Romanian cards automatically receive an SMS with the details of the Romanian Embassy or Consulate General responsible for the area in question. On the website of each Embassy or Consulate General there is an emergency telephone number and, practically, all these emergency calls are redirected to a global call centre that exists and operates within the department, active 24 hours a day.
