Boxer Lucian Bute, Super Middleweight World Champion, stated that, following the partnership signed with the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism, the new national stadium and the Cotroceni stadium are considered possible venues for organizing one of his matches in Bucharest.
The news that Lucian Bute is going to promote the touristic image of Romania was officially made public during the press conference held at the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism and attended by Minister Elena Udrea.
"I so hope that next year I’ll be boxing in Romania. The partnership contract signed with the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism contains a clause that might allow us to have this match in Bucharest and, hopefully, this will happen next year in the summer".
"I believe that Bucharest would be the most appropriate place because it is the capital city and many people could come. Sala Polivalentă would probably be too small, and the national stadium or the Cotroceni stadium could be possible solutions", the Romanian boxer said.
Lucian Bute stated that his opponent has not been agreed on yet, but there are "three pugilists on the list".
The world champion also added that it is an honor to bring his contribution to the promotion of Romania’s image around the world.
"I’m glad that I can bring my contribution to the promotion of Romania. It is an honor for me to represent Romania like I did every time I boxed, every time I took the flag with me in the ring. This is where I was born and where I trained and I’ll never forget this, no matter where I box. It is an honor to join other important sportspeople such as Nadia Comăneci or Ilie Năstase, who, in turn, promoted Romania", Lucian Bute stated.
