Unqualified workers and those who do not speak English at an acceptable level will no longer receive work visas in the UK after the post-Brexit transition period ends.
London Government presented, on Wednesday, details of the new immigration system to be applied from 1 January next year.
Radio Romania News correspondent Dan Vasiliu: "The objective of the future immigration system is to prioritize access of highly skilled workers and to reduce the influx of cheap and low skilled labor. Thus, workers coming from European Union and non-EU countries will be evaluated according to the same criteria, to determine if they can receive a visa to come to work in the United Kingdom. They will need to prove the professional skills specific to the desired field of work, they need to attest their profficiency in English and to already have a job offer with an annual salary of at least 25,600 pounds or above the reference salary set for the target area. Those who have a job offer with a salary below the above mentioned one can qualify for the visa if they have advanced qualifications in their specialized field or if they are employed in a sector where there is a crisis in the United Kingdom labor force. London Government's plan will require each foreign worker to obtain at least 70 points in this assessment in order to obtain a work permit in the United Kingdom. The system grants maximum 20 points to candidates who meet the minimum salary criteria. Presentation of the job offer received from a British employer will receive 20 points, qualification corresponding to the post also 20 points, and corresponding level of knowledge of English 10 points".
