The librarian Avram Iancu, from Petrosani, known for swimming across the English Channel and traveling, in the same way, the Danube, is facing a new challenge.
He announced that he intends to set a new record for endurance swimming on the river, in a session that began today upstream of Moldova Noua and will end, a few tens of hours later, at the Iron Gates I.
He estimated that in this 120-kilometer race he could swim for about 30-35 hours, the main goal being to break several records that belong to him.
The sportsman from Petrosani also said that his challenge, which takes place around Navy Day, also aims to draw attention to the beauties of the river and the Danube Delta, but also to the importance of keeping the waters clean.
Avram Iancu started the race on the Danube this morning at 3:00, and his route can be monitored on his Facebook page.
