About one billion euros have to enter the state budget as a result of DNA anti-corruption investigations, DNA Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi said in a conference on the recovery of damages in court cases with final decisions.
As Kovesi pointed out, the fact that the money does not acutally enter the state budget is not a matter of legislation, but of how court decisions, that have to be respected, are taken into account.
"We have always considered that damage recovery is important.
We have to consider the specificity of DNA investigations, we are talking about high-level corruption, people with important functions or impressive fortunes.
And our expectations are higher when it comes to recovering the damage", said Laura Codruta Kovesi.
Laura Codruta Kovesi mentioned that when talking about the unavailability of goods, only the ones on the territory of Romania are mentioned, but there is an interesting tendency of convicted persons to open accounts in other countries or transfer assets abroad, in offshore accounts.
